Why Study Sport?
At King's Leadership Academy, our PE Department fosters student athleticism, aiming to equip them with skills for a healthy lifestyle and competitive sports. We aspire for students to engage in community sports, lead active lives independently, and confidently participate in outdoor activities post-graduation.
What Will You Study at KS3?
In Key Stage 3, we focus on preparing students for success in sports and promoting a healthy lifestyle. They develop fundamental motor skills across various activities which include: Rugby, Football, Netball, Basketball, Badminton, OAA, Dance, Rounder, Crickets and Athletics. We emphasise core skills that can be applied across different sports and deepen their understanding of fitness, biomechanics, and tactical strategies. We also teach rules and regulations to foster a love for sports beyond the curriculum. Our aim is to create well-rounded student athletes capable of excelling in various sport specialties.
What Will You Study at KS4?
In Key Stage 4, we deepen students' PE enthusiasm and commitment to lifelong sports engagement. We focus on strategy and tactics, integrating conditioned practices and full-context gameplay.. Their academic journey begins with BTEC Sport, expanding on fitness knowledge and healthy living. The curriculum broadens to cover diverse sports sectors, outdoor activities, and societal roles in sports provision. We emphasise inclusive sport adaptation and mastering training principles for activity success, with real-world motivational discussions.
Healthy Participation Curriculum (HPC)
Underpinning both KS3 and KS4 activities is our Healthy Participation Curriculum. The HPC creates a holistic approach to physical education by integrating the importance of warming up and preparing the body for physical activity, the physiological impact of exercise, both short and long-term, training methods to promote these changes, the importance of motivation and goal setting to promote success in sport and leadership development. This ensures students understand the physical changes that occur with regular participation, fostering a greater appreciation for their health and fitness journeys and to encourage life-long participation.
Extra curricular activities
At Kings, we offer students the chance to represent the school in local and regional sports competitions, regardless of ability. This broadens their experience and fosters well-rounded student athletes. They can participate in various sports such as football, rugby, netball, dance, basketball, fencing, jujitsu, athletics, and more.
Careers in sport
Through our opportunities, students can delve deeper into key concepts, preparing them for higher education and rewarding careers in sports. They'll enhance theoretical knowledge for roles like physiotherapy, leverage motivational understanding for sports psychology, and employ tactical expertise for coaching locally and nationally.
