Miss R Hannah

Teacher of English

My passions for literature and history have always been closely connected.  While growing up I was fascinated by local legends, historical literature and antiquities, all with different stories to tell. I thrived on escaping from the humdrum everyday to the mythical legends of days gone by, inspired by Britain’s vast collection of country houses and ruined castles. I have always had a great passion for learning and always endeavour to constantly improve my mind and expand my knowledge.

As I got older I realised that there was perhaps something which could exceed beyond my love of my own learning: the love of sharing my knowledge with others. At aged 16 I travelled to China to teach English as a second language to children in Xi’an and Chengdu. This was the first time I realised the thrill every teacher can experience when you see a child reach far beyond what they ever thought possible. At aged 19 I travelled to Madurai, India to volunteer in an orphanage and this visit only confirmed what I had suspected for a long time: that teaching was my calling.

After gaining my First Class Joint Honours degree in History and English Literature at the beautiful and historical York St John University, I progressed to the University of Glasgow to complete my Post Graduate Diploma in Education.  For the two years following I worked as Practitioner of English in Scotland for two years. During this time I worked tirelessly to develop my practice and strived to be a reflective practitioner, always considering the next step in my development and how I could motivate my pupils to aspire for more and further encourage a love for literature. I pride myself on my relationships with my learners and thoroughly enjoy helping them revaluate the way they perceive learning.

I was honoured to be appointed in a role here at King’s Leadership Academy. I find the high level of thought, care and reflection, which has been put into every pupils’ journey at King’s to ensure they leave with a successful future secured, inspiring. I cannot wait for my adventure at King’s to begin.
