I began my career as a zoologist studying chameleons in Africa. During that time, I enjoyed leading field trips, assisting in laboratory sessions and mentoring university students to nurture their curiosity for the natural world.
Upon return to the UK, I transitioned into cancer research. I worked on a number of projects whilst also training young researchers and medical professionals in laboratory techniques. I was also part of the STEM engagement team delivering interactive talks and hands on activities aimed to inspire an interest in science, technology, engineering and maths.
I found the public engagement aspect of my work so rewarding that I decided to move to a role within the cancer charity sector where I could focus more on outreach and awareness.
After taking a career break, I realised the most fulfilling aspects of my previous roles all involved teaching in some form. This is what sparked my decision to pursue a career in education.
As a Teaching Scholar, I have the privilege of sharing my passion for education with the students, especially in my favourite subjects - science and maths!
