Year 9 Options 2025 - 2027

Here at King’s Warrington, our curriculum is tailored to provide excellent opportunities and progression to all students. King’s is an educational community whose philosophy embraces the development of academic excellence, responsibility, character, leadership, and friendship; through the delivery of an exciting and challenging curriculum, delivered in a safe environment where intellectual risk taking is encouraged.

These values and their implementation were held to be outstanding by Ofsted, a finding which we were delighted with and fully reinforces our commitment to this ethos.

The Academy is committed to developing a senior learning programme which harnesses aspirations and ensures that students have the best possible chance of success in the future. Because of this, expectations at King’s are high in Key Stage 4. We firmly believe that every student can succeed, whatever their starting point. To this aim, good attendance (above 97%), punctuality, and a focused attitude to learning are critical for success, and are an expectation for all pupils.

Students are also challenged during the senior programme to organise and manage their study time effectively. Assemblies and extra-curricular activities remain an important part of Academy life, and we hope that students will manage to balance their school life with enjoyment, through participating in the many events which allow for us to have fun together as a community. This includes the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh Award, onto which every student will be enrolled at the start of Year 9.

Our students will continue to be very well supported through our exceptional pastoral system; and similar to Years 7 & 8, this will link very closely to the academic curriculum. Subject Practitioners will continue to report on students’ progress every Learning Cycle, and Academic Tutors will meet regularly in the role of progress mentors during the daily Aspire time. By the time students complete Year 11, they will have received plenty of guidance and support in moving on to the next stage in their learning journey.

The first stage of the Senior Programme is to arrange the ‘focus’ subjects that will be studied. As you are probably aware, the vast majority of subjects that will be studied here at King’s are known as ‘core’ or compulsory subjects. These include English, Mathematics, Science, Spanish, Character/Leadership and PE. Please use the details contained in this booklet, as well as conversations with our subject and pastoral staff, to make sure you have all the information you need to make informed choices.

There are also multiple new subjects, qualifications and opportunities available which you may not be familiar with; therefore it is very important that you read this booklet carefully and consider all the focus subjects available, speaking with staff in order to help you with your decision. Should you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us at the Academy.
