King’s Leadership Academy Warrington recently celebrated the sporting achievements of its dedicated students and is looking forward to seeing more students let their talent shine in future competitions.
King’s Warrington’s Combined Cadet Force entered the Merseyside Air Cadets five-a-side intermediate boys’ football competition and were narrowly beaten in the semi-final by an extra time penalty. The students demonstrated exemplary behaviour and effort throughout the competition.
The Merseyside Sports Officer also commented that the team’s presence really shook things up and stated they would like to see them compete more in future.
During the football competition, player Oliver White was called back for a trial to join the Merseyside team for the next level at the regional competition. He was selected and recently travelled to Rochdale to compete against the other Air Cadet teams from across the region. Again, the team played amazingly well, winning all of their games and becoming the North Region five-a-side football champions! Oliver can now legitimately say he’s part of the best Air Cadet football team in the North of England.
The academy has also enjoyed sporting success in cross country running, with student Emily Kinsey winning the under 15 girls’ competition. Emily beat around 60 competitors, and finished just under five minutes ahead of the runner who came in second place.
Personal Development Training Officer Daniel Doherty expressed his pride in the school, saying: “This is the first year we have been invited to take part in these sports events and for King’s Warrington to have made their mark so early is a testament to the character and ability our cadets possess. I have no doubt that Emily would also have won at the next level event if there had been one this year. Here’s to future sporting success!"
